Dec. 12, 2005

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's track team opened the indoor season with a bang as freshmen Andre Black and Tony Belt earned NCAA qualifying marks as well as Top 5 world marks in the long jump at Saturday's Saluki Fast Start Invitational in Carbondale, Ill.

Black, a native of Mobile, Ala., won the long jump at the Saluki Fast Start with a mark of 24 feet, 11 inches (7.59 meters), which ranks second in the latest 2006 World Indoor List, is an NCAA indoor qualifying mark and is a new U of L record in the event.

"This is a great example of the progress that the track and field program here at U of L to not only have athletes that are capable of competing with the best in U.S., but to have athletes that are also working towards being among the world's elite athletes," said second-year Cardinal head coach Ron Mann. "I would like to compliment my coaching staff and the hard work they put in with each of our student-athletes this fall to bring us to this point."
